What are they?
Hair follicles or the skin itself can become infected, resulting in a variety of symptoms, including pus, blisters, sores, or crust.
How do we treat them?
A bacterial culture may be performed to determine the best course of antibiotics. Some symptoms are treated with topical antibiotics, while ones involving larger areas of the skin may require oral antibiotics. Topical or oral antifungals may be prescribed for fungal infection. Viral infections such as herpes or shingles may require oral antivirals and possibly pain control.
